Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
